FtpVC

When working on the same project, without being in the same place, team members can successfully use the FTP service for storing project files in the same place. The problem with FTP and FTP clients in general is that it's very difficult to know what file has been modified by a certain team member. Fortunately, there is one application which offers this functionality, as well as the functionality of a regular FTP client.

I am talking about FtpVC. This simple Windows program allows anyone to have control over the version of all the files stored on any FTP server. In this way, all the team members know what files have been modified and what files were not.

After installing and launching the program, the user will first need to enter the FTP server details. For this, he will need to enter the server address, username and password. After completing this step, FtpVC will automatically connect to the specified FTP server. At this point, the user will be able to add project files from his hard disk onto the FTP server, by accessing the Version Control option inside the drop-down menu.

During the upload process, every file will have its version checked and the program will store all this information inside a log file. Whenever another user will try to upload the same file, FtpVC will tell him if the same version of the file is or is not located on the FTP server. By accessing the settings area, the program can be configured to send automated emails to all the team members, whenever one of them tries to upload a file with the same version number on the FTP server.

The program's functionality can be protected with a password, so only specific team members have access to it.
